Award for Radio Free Afghanistan Reporter

(Prague, Czech Republic – May 7, 2008) A Kabul-based journalist for RFE/RL’s Radio Free Afghanistan, Brishna Nazari, has received an award for aiding the reconstruction of Afghan society through balanced and objective reporting.

Nazari was recognized by the National Union of Journalists of Afghanistan in a May 3 ceremony commemorating World Press Freedom Day. The citation praised Nazari for his contribution to journalism and helping to revive the profession in his country, which has been devastated by decades of war.

Nazari is Current Affairs Editor of the Dari section in RFE/RL’s Kabul bureau and has been working for RFE/RL since the bureau opened in 2002. He is well-known to listeners as a news anchor and moderator of several Radio Free Afghanistan current affairs programs.

Radio Free Afghanistan is a leading broadcaster in Afghanistan, with an audience of nearly 52 percent of the adult population tuning into its bilingual Dari and Pashto broadcasts. Radio Free Afghanistan is regarded as one of the most trustworthy and reliable media outlets in the country.

Radio Free Afghanistan, the Dari- and Pashto-language service of RFE/RL, broadcasts 12 hours of programming a day, with programs produced in Prague and the service’s Kabul Bureau and transmitted to listeners via shortwave, satellite and AM and FM signals provided by the International Broadcasting Bureau.
