(Washington, DC) The Board of Directors of RFE/RL, Inc. has approved the appointment of Dennis Mulhaupt to serve as the Chair of RFE’s corporate board.
“RFE is pleased to have Dennis Mulhaupt lead our corporate board. His guidance and advice will help RFE as we continue to seek new ways to provide uncensored news and information to our audiences in 21 countries including Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Russia,” said RFE President Jeffrey Gedmin.
Mulhaupt, a member of the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), is joined on the RFE corporate board by eight directors who also serve on the BBG. They are Walter Isaacson, Victor Ashe, Michael Lynton, Susan McCue, Michael Meehan, Dana Perino, S. Enders Wimbush and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
This week, Mulhaupt traveled to Tbilisi with RFE President Gedmin to visit RFE’s Georgian Service. Following a meeting with Georgian Service staff at RFE’s bureau, Mulhaupt said, “I look forward to supporting these terrific journalists who fulfill a vital role in the development of a young democracy.”
“For 60 years, RFE has stood as an outstanding example of the power of free media and has given its audiences the accurate information they need to make informed judgments about their lives and the world around them,” he added.
Dennis Mulhaupt was appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve on the BBG, which oversees all non-military U.S. international broadcasting organizations including RFE, the Voice of America, Radio Free Asia, Radio and TV Marti and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks–Radio Sawa and Alhurra Television. At the BBG, Mulhaupt serves as a Co-Chair of the BBG Governance Committee and as a member of the Strategy and Budget Committee.
Mulhaupt is founder and Managing Director of Commonwealth Partners, Inc., a firm which provides advisory services to philanthropic institutions and families. Before founding Commonwealth Partners, he served as Executive Vice President at KCET in Los Angeles, the West Coast flagship public broadcasting and media company. He has also served as Vice President at Claremont McKenna College; Associate Vice President at Stanford University; and Senior Associate Dean in the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences at the University of Southern California, where he also taught undergraduate courses in international relations.
