WASHINGTON – RFE/RL has just rolled out a new version of its news app, responding to the growing demand for its reporting among mobile audiences, and its growing digital presence in over 20 language markets it serves.

The official RFE/RL mobile application, available for free in the Apple App Store and on Google Play, offers access to content in 22 languages, including Russian, Ukrainian, Chechen, Dari, Pashto, Farsi, and English, covering 36 regions and countries across Europe and Asia.

The app allows users to customize their news feed by country/region and topic, as well as to read stories while listening to on-demand and live audio and video. Notifications enable users to receive breaking news as it happens, while a low-bandwidth mode saves download time and data costs in environments where internet use is expensive or restricted.

RFE/RL’s news app was used 2.43 million times in February 2017, to access more than 6.25 million pages of content.

The app was designed by RFE/RL’s award-winning, in-house Pangea Digital unit, which was a Bronze Award winner in the 2016 Lovie Awards, has twice been a finalist for the Global Mobile Awards (2013, 2014), and is a five-time Webby Award Honoree (2012201320142016).
