Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s (RFE/RL) News App has been nominated for the prestigious Webby Awards in the Mobile Sites and Apps: News category, a distinction of excellence in Internet content.

Along with The Wall Street Journal, HuffPost, Bloomberg and Radio NZ, RFE/RL will compete in the 22nd annual Webby Awards as chosen by the Academy of Digital Arts in each category, as well as the People’s Webby Award, voted on by the public. Voting is open until April 19th.

Winners will be announced on April 24 and honored at a ceremony in New York on May 14.

Developed by RFE/RL’s Pangea Digital team, the news app was launched in March 2017. With news available in 22 languages, it brings audiences up-to-the-minute articles, photos, videos, and audio, as well as the “My News” feature, a customizable interface allowing readers to create their own newsfeed from across RFE/RL language services.

Pangea Digital and several RFE/RL language services have been recognized as official honorees at the Webby Awards in years past. In 2016, a feature video produced by Current Time Digital in cooperation with RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz service won the Webby People’s Voice Award.

The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. Established in 1996, The Webby Awards received nearly 13,000 entries from over 70 countries worldwide this year.
