RFE/RL Website Wins Silver in 2017 Lovie Awards
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s (RFE/RL) website rferl.org has won silver in the 2017 Lovie Awards, according to a press release on October 11. RFE/RL won in the “News and Politics Website” category, alongside the websites of gold winner VICE News and silver winner The Guardian.
WASHINGTON — Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s (RFE/RL) website rferl.org has won silver in the 2017 Lovie Awards, according to a press release on October 11. RFE/RL won in the “News and Politics Website” category, alongside the websites of gold winner VICE News and silver winner The Guardian.
RFE/RL’s responsive website supports 25 languages and is used by audiences in 23 countries where independent media is either banned or not fully established.
The website won a bronze Lovie Award in 2016 in the “News Website” category, while a video documentary from RFE/RL’s Russian Service about refugees on both sides of the fighting in eastern Ukraine won bronze in the “Documentary Internet Video” category in 2015. In 2014, RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service’s video “Bird’s-eye View of Euromaidan Protests in Kyiv” won a People’s Lovie Award as well as a bronze Lovie Award in the “Events and Live Broadcasting Internet Video” category.
Now in its seventh year, The Lovie Awards is a pan-European competition that celebrates outstanding media created for the web. Presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), it is the leading European award honoring excellence on the Internet.
Nearly 1,500 entries from more than 33 countries across the continent were in contention for this year’s awards. The 2017 Lovie Awards will be presented at a gala in London on November 16.
