Internship opportunity in the Legal Department
Prague

If you wish to make a difference in places where free media is under threat or does not exist, RFE/RL offers eligible, qualified students the opportunity to engage with professionals and learn more about our mission. In doing so, you would acquire practical experience. Internships are a competitive process and are unpaid. We offer skills development and an opportunity to contribute to an exciting media project.
Our Legal Department is seeking a dedicated in-house intern (at Prague’s Headquarters) with expertise in Czech law. Knowledge of legal systems in the regions where RFE/RL broadcasts is a strong advantage. Additionally, part of the internship agenda might involve GDPR-related processes, so prior experience or familiarity with GDPR is a significant plus.
This internship provides a unique opportunity to support a diverse range of projects and gain valuable experience within a professional legal setting. You will conduct in-depth research across various legal domains, such as civil law, labor law, administrative law, and more, with a focus on jurisdictions relevant to RFE/RL’s radio operations.
Internship Details:
- Hours: 10–20 hours per week.
- Duration: Minimum of 3 months (renewable for up to 6 months).
- Formats: Preference for in-person internships, but remote candidates may be considered.
We also accept applications for shorter-term, full-time, intensive internships.
What You’ll Gain:
- Deep knowledge of legal principles and emerging issues across multiple jurisdictions.
- Insight into the interplay between EU legislation and the legal frameworks of non-EU countries in a multicultural organizational environment.
- Experience navigating the legal administration of a global non-profit organization.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development of internal legal resources, such as FAQs and memoranda.
- Managing and updating key legal documents necessary for the organization’s operations.
- Assisting with contractual agreements to safeguard the organization’s interests.
- Supporting GDPR-related processes.
Minimum requirements are:
- Education: Currently enrolled as a university student (3rd year or higher) or recent graduate specializing in law. Proficiency in Czech law is mandatory; knowledge of EU law and laws in RFE/RL broadcast regions is a strong asset.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Czech is essential.
- Familiarity with GDPR processes is a plus.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Professionalism when collaborating with colleagues.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Prior experience in a legal role is an advantage.
