About the fellowship

Description

Radio Farda, RFE/RL’s Persian-language service, launched the Mahsa Zhina Amini Fellowship in 2023 to honor the 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman whose death in September 2022 in the custody of the Islamic Republic’s “morality police” sparked mass protests nationwide.

The Mahsa Zhina Amini Fellowship aims to support women in the pursuit of their rights and freedom of expression. The Fellowship will be awarded to three young Iranian women with a proven record of advocating for free expression, empowerment, and the equality of women in society through journalism, arts, literature, and poetry.

The Fellowship is a three-month remote program. Fellows will receive a stipend of $1,000 per month. They will work closely with Radio Farda editors to develop content on women’s rights in Iran.
