About the Service
Operating out of Chisinau, Radio Europa Liberă Moldova has reached rapidly growing Romanian and Russian-speaking audiences since 1997.
In the lead-up to Romania’s pivotal 2025 presidential election, the Service broke a major story revealing that George Simion, a pro-Russia frontrunner, was challenging his entry ban to Moldova. The report reached hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens with dual Romanian citizenship.
The Service has conducted critical investigations, including uncovering a military unit recruiting Moldovan citizens to fight in Russia’s war in Ukraine and identifying factories that continued to export dual-use goods to Russia’s military.
Journalists reported on the continued presence of diplomats with links to Russian intelligence at Russia’s embassy in Moldova after 45 Russian diplomats and embassy staff were expelled in August 2023.
The Service documented how widespread poverty and economic struggles were exploited by Kremlin-backed disinformation campaigns ahead of Moldovan elections in September 2025.
To foster a more informed electorate, the Service organized four rounds of debates in which young audience members questioned politicians from the main political parties.
The Service produces compelling podcasts including, On the Agenda, a weekly video talk show focusing on Moldova’s most pressing current issues.
