About the Service
Operating out of Chisinau, Radio Europa Liberă Moldova has reached rapidly growing Romanian and Russian-speaking audiences since 1997.
Investigations uncovered the operations of a military unit recruiting Moldovan citizens to fight in Russia’s full-scale war on Ukraine, and factories that continued to export dual-use goods to Russia’s military complex.
Journalists reported on the continued presence of diplomats with links to Russian intelligence at Russia’s embassy in Moldova after 45 Russian diplomats and embassy staff were expelled in August 2023.
The Service broke the first #MeToo movement story to emerge in Moldova’s theater scene, following allegation of sexual harassment by an actress resulting in an investigation by the Prosecutor General’s office.
Radio Europa Liberă Moldova was the first to report on the defection of dozens of priests from the Moldovan branch of the Russian Orthodox Church due to its support for Russia’s war on Ukraine.
The Service produces compelling podcasts including, In Essence which dissects current affairs with high-profile guests, Culture on the Border which covers the intersection of art and politics, and Social Lab which targets younger people through discussions with alternative thinkers in Moldova’s underground scene.
