About the Service

Established in 2001 as part of RFE/RL’s Balkan Service, RFE/RL’s North Macedonia Service, known locally as Radio Slobodna Evropa, offers its diverse audience a space for open dialogue and exchange of opinions.

Through its “New Generation” project, the Service is collaborating with North Macedonia’s Gen Z influencers seeking to be a main force for change in the country.

Radio Slobodna Evropa prioritizes investigating and exposing corruption and crime among the political and business elite in North Macedonia, as well as the country’s connections with China and Russia.

The Service’s forensic unit works to investigate the dark web and uncovered fraudsters who sold Americans debit-like “Trump cards” featuring the U.S. President Donald Trump’s image.

Nationwide and local TV stations in North Macedonia broadcast the Service’s 20-minute Sunday televised interview segment with prominent politicians and diplomats.

On The Why podcast, Radio Slobodna Evropa explores listener-submitted situations, problems, and topics, covering social and cultural issues.
